Ford Mustang May Soon Be Hitting The Indian Roads

According to various media reports, Ford Motors may launch the iconic Mustang in India next year. The same has been confirmed by Ford’s Global CEO, Mark Fields, who established the way in for the Mustang car to some dealers during the Sanand plant inauguration. Ford plans to first showcase the car at the 2016 Delhi Auto Show, which is scheduled to take place in the first week of February and the production for sale in the country will begin a few months after.

India is a major priority market for the Detroit-based car company’s Right-Hand Drive (RHD) models. It  has  started already started selling the RHD Mustang in the UK earlier this year for £28,995 (Rs.26.94 lakh). Internationally, the new Mustang comes powered with two engine choices—a 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that delivers 310bhp and a 5-litre V8 engine that churns out 418 bhp. However, India is likely to get the 5-litre V8 engine rather than the EcoBoost engine.

Ford Mustang is one of the most prominant American muscle cars and has been around since 1965.

The Ford Mustang 2015 is the sixth generation pony that started selling in the US last year. Unlike its previous models, this version features a fully independent rear suspension with new front perimeter sub-frame. This model comes in two body styles, the 2-Door Coupe Fastback and 2-Door Convertible body styles. The Mustang is provided with Ford’s SYNC multimedia system, MyKey keyless start and Blind Spot warning system.

If the release statements are true, this model is set to compete against the likes of BMW‘s 5 series sedan and Audi’s A6. Since 2010, Ford has released Figo hatchback, Fiesta sedan and SUV EcoSport. Within the next 18-24 months, it plans to introduce new offerings which include a sub-4 metre sedan centred on the Figo platform, a next generation Figo hatchback and a new model of its SUV Endeavour. But the real icing on the cake of course is the Ford Mustang and we would definitely be waiting for the legendary race horse to land in India so that we could take out for a spin.
