Genesis is the New Luxury Car Brand by Hyundai
Hyundai now has a name for its luxury car lineup. It’s called Genesis, named after the company’s first luxury sedan that came out in 2008. The carmaker says the “all-new global luxury brand will deliver ‘human-centered’ luxury through a range of new models that feature the highest standards of performance, design and innovation.”
Genesis will operate as an individual global brand and will sell Genesis models in Korea, China, North America and Middle East to begin with. The luxury brand will then expand its horizon and include the European and Asian markets as well. The company is planning to launch another Genesis sedan next month. Hyundai wants to push out at least 5 models by 2020.
The announcement of a new premium car brand comes just days after the company revealed it was seeing the worst quarter in the last five years. The Genesis badge has a wing-like emblem. Furthermore, the Genesis cars will be named alphanumerically where the model will have a ‘G’ for Genesis succeeded by a number representing the model.
Hyundai has not revealed details as to when the Genesis line will reach India. It looks likely, however, that the cars won’t hit Indian markets before 2020.
