Audi Ventures Into The World Of Electric Cars, Will Launch Its First Car In USA

Electric cars are the future. The green car revolution has begun, and we are now seeing many car companies opting for electric-run cars rather than the traditional fuel types. The latest to join the list is Audi, as the car company gears up to launch its first electric car in America, in October.

The compact electric car, named the 2016 Audi A3 e-tron, is powered by a 1.4litre TFSI four-cylinder engine with an electric motor that produces 204HP. Power is transmitted to the front wheels by a six-speed dual clutch transmission.

Audi also says the 8.8 kWh lithium-ion battery is fixed under the rear seat and takes 8 hours to charge fully. However, an optional Bosch 240-volt home charger can lower charge times to about 2.25 hours.

The Plus model throws in LED headlamps, heated seats that can be connected to your iOS device for $42,000. There is also a Prestige option that starts out at $46,80, but with features like an MMI infotainment system, Bang & Olufsen audio and active lane assistance can take the total up to nearly $50,000.

For now, the company has not yet revealed how many vehicles will be shipped to the USA and we hope the price and shipping dates for India are announced soon. Stay tuned to AutoGyaan for the latest updates.
