Maruti Suzuki Launches S-Cross, A Premium Crossover
India’s biggest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India has now launched the new S-Cross, a premium crossover. S-Cross is Maruti’s first real attempt to enter the premium market. The new vehicle will sell through a dedicated distribution channel called Nexa.
Available in two variants and only being diesel, Maruti’s S-Cross will compete against the likes of Hyundai’s SUV Creta, Renault’s SUV Duster, Toyota’s Etios Cross and Fiat’s Avventura. The company and its suppliers have invested over Rs 600 crores towards developing this model.
Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki said:
There is a segment of customers in India who want power and performance in their vehicle, but also the comfort and refinement of a sedan. Built on a brand new platform, its bold cross-over shape, dynamic character lines and many sophisticated touches contribute to its distinct look and emotional appeal.
Maruti Suzuki’s S-Cross includes the multi-information display, cruise control, rain sensing auto wipers, a self-adjusting hydraulic clutch and rear seat recliners. It will also feature a navigation system and a smart play infotainment system.
Maruti is also striving to extend its leadership in India by entering new segments through the newly launched Nexa showrooms where Maruti will sell their premium products.
Starting today, S-Cross will be exclusively available at Nexa outlets. We have 35 outlets operational today across 23 cities. We plan to have 100 showrooms across 30 cities by end of this fiscal, Ayukawa said.
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will only be available in the diesel engine option of 1.6 and 1.3 litres respectively. It also stated that the variant DDiS 200 (1.3 litres) will price between Rs 8.34 lakh and Rs 1o.77 lakh. Whereas, DDiS 320 (1.6 litres) will be available between the price of Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 13.74 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
