BMW Set to Release 15 New Car Models in India This Year
With a 50 per cent manufacturing localisation level novelty under the ‘Make-in-India’ campaign, German Powerhouse BMW is planning to introduce 15 new models this year. BMW had already begun operations at the Chennai plant in March and since then, the group has strengthened its commitment to the Indian market and has continuously increased the number of locally produced car models. Among which, 5 have been already launched and the remaining 10 will be announced in the coming year.
“In 2015 we will expand our product range and cover all the opportunity available in the luxury car segment. This year we will launch 15 new products along with i8 launched in January. We will also launch 1 Series, 3 Series, (new models),” – Philipp von Sahr , BMW Group India President.
Some of the major auto components for local production of cars at the BMW Plant is engine and transmission from Force Motors, axles from ZF Hero Chassis, door panels and wiring harness from Draexlmaier India, exhaust systems from Tenneco Automotive India, heating and ventilating, air-conditioning and cooling modules from Valeo India respectively. The 1 Series, 3 Series, BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, 5 Series, 7 Series, X1, X3, and X5 will be equipped with the engine that are manufactured from the Chennai plant.
Alongside with those eight car models, the arrival of BMW M6 Gran Coupe, new BMW M6 Coupe, and all-new BMW X5M, and BMW X6M are also imminent in the forthcoming years.
