Mercedes-Benz Launches the GLE in India

Luxury car maker Mercedes Benz officially launched the SUV GLE on Wednesday. The SLE comes in two diesel engine variants – 250d and 350d engines. The car is priced at Rs 58.90 lakh for the 250d engine and at Rs. Rs 69.90 lakh for the 350d variant (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).

As mentioned in an earlier post, the 250d variant will have a 2.1-litre four-cylinder motor that will produce 201bhp with a peak torque of 500 Nm. The 350d 3.0-litre V6 diesel model, on the other hand, will give 258bhp with top torque of 620Nm. The Mercedes GLE can go from 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h.

The Mercedes GLE is a revamped version of the outgoing M-class and comes with some changes to the exterior, especially in the front, with new radiator grille, a new bonnet and a new front bumper, that gives it a sporty look. The rear-end also gets new LED tail-lamps. However, the sides and back of the SUV remains similar to the M-Class. Inside the GLE you will see a large 7-inch display with the latest COMAND interface and touchpad, among other things.

“Our SUV portfolio has grown by 70 per cent year-on-year in the January-September period this year. GLE will be locally produced in India at our Pune plant,” Mercedes-Benz India MD & CEO Roland Folger told reporters.

The company has already launched 13 products in India including the recently unveiled Maybach S500 and S600. The company has plans to launch a total of 15 cars by the end of the year and it looks like they’re on course.
