Goodyear Unveils Mind-Blowing Heat Producing Concept Electric Tyres

Electric cars is the buzz word in the automotive industry these days, but it’s quite perplexing to think of an electric tyre. Prominent American tyre manufacturer Goodyear has pulled off something really unique, giving us a glimpse of the future of tyre technology with the recent unveiling of its BH03 concept tyres at the Geneva Motor Show 2015. It produces electricity from the heat generated while driving. The tread patterns on these concept tyres look pretty insane, within which are housed thermoelectric and piezoelectric materials that convert heat into electricity.

Goodyear says these tyres collect and dissipate heat in several ways, most common being the friction built up when the tyre comes in contact with the ground while in motion. While small patches on the surface of tyre can also soak in heat directly from the sun. Goodyear though has given no indication as to how much electricity the BH03 can generate, though they did mention that these tyres can reduce the anxiety owners of electric cars go through.

This visionary tire technology could eliminate the vehicle-range anxiety motorists may have with electric cars.

Goodyear also unveiled a shape-shifting Triple Tube concept tyre. As the name suggests, it gets three tubes housed within the treads, while an internal pump adjusts the inflation of the tyre depending on-road conditions.

Both BH03 and triple tube tyres are mere concepts at this point. Do check out the official unveiling video below:
