Mercedes’ Cheapest Sedan ‘CLA-Class’ is Coming to India on 22nd January

The much awaited CLA-Class from Mercedes is finally launching in India on January 22. With the CLA-45 AMG already introduced, the German manufacturer is now prepping the standard variant of the car for the Indian sub-continent. According to the company it’s the cheapest luxury saloon in the country.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class features a similar engine unit equipped in the GLA-Class SUV. The petrol variant gets a 2 litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit that generates 181bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the diesel variant sports a 2.2 litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit that churns out 136bhp with the same level of torque. The engines are clubbed to a 7G-DCT automatic transmission.

Inspired by the Mercedes’ MFA (Modular Front-wheel drive Architecture), a front wheel drive architecture has also been deployed on the A-Class, B-Class, GLA-Class and CLA-45 AMG.

Meanwhile, the car boasts an aggressive looking front with a long bonnet and sassy lines. It sports a single chrome front grille with the Mercedez logo housed bang in the centre along with Bi-xenon headlamps with integrated daytime running lamps. While, the rear of the CLA-Class looks similar to the CLS four-door coupe. The sloping roofline of the sedan gives it slick sporty appeal.

The car is expected to be priced around Rs. 27-32 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and can be pitted against the Audi A3, although we think that CLA is a clear winner in terms of its outer demeanor.
