Hyundai Officially Launched Premium Hatchback, The Elite i20

Hyundai, India’s second largest car maker, has just announced the second-generation of its most popular car, the i20. The new generation of the hatchback was earlier expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

The second generation i20 is based on the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 philosophy. The car is powered by a 1.2 VTVT Kappa and a 2nd generation 1.4 CRDi engine. The petrol variant comes with a 5 speed transmission while the diesel is mated to a 6 speed manual transmission.

The much awaited premium hatchback will offer a slew of new features including the interior and exterior design of the car. Available in both petrol (1.2-Litre) and diesel (1.4-Litre), the new hatchback launched today marks the ‘World Premiere’ of the second generation i20, which will be launched in other global markets later. While the petrol variant are priced between Rs. 4,89,900 and Rs. 6,46,900, the diesel versions are priced between Rs. 6,09,900 and Rs. 7,66,900.

The petrol variant produces 83PS of power and 11.7 kg.m of torque while the diesel one manages to give out 90 PS of power and 22.4 kg.m of torque. The diesel gives a fuel economy of 22.54 kmpl and petrol 18.60 kmpl in its Era and Magna variants. Sports and Asta claim to give a mileage of 21.7 kmpl in diesel and 18.24 kmpl in petrol respectively.

Th Elite i20 sports an entirely different look from the earlier model. The low mounted grille is one of the main changes in the design – the headlights, bonnet ‘V’ and even the strong shoulder line spreading out from there. The rear profile of the car also looks completely new, with ‘boomerang’ shaped tail-lights, new wrap-around windows and a few more changes.

On the interiors it gets a black and beige toned dash and seats, sporty multifunctional steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls, integrated 2 Din audio with USB and Aux-in and 1 GB internal memory, rear AC vents, start stop button, and automatic temperature control. It also gets dual airbags, ABS, impact sensing door unlock and reverse parking camera.
